Nanise is a civil engineer, having worked for MWH Global and Fiji Ports Corporation Limited. She is interested in climate resilient infrastructure, especially the structural integrity of Fiji’s ports. Given the high trade of trade that happens through the maritime industry, Nanise sees the maintenance of ports as vital to Fiji’s economic development.
Nanise hopes to become an influential leader in civil engineering. She is committed to contributing her expertise to projects that will empower women in engineering both in Fiji and within the Pacific region. On completion of her studies, she will be the first female of i-Taukei descent with a Master of Civil Engineering in Fiji.
Ellen is a qualified civil engineer. She has over 19 years’ experience working in the civil construction industry for major road and rail infrastructure projects across South Australia and the Northern Territory. She has worked across the planning, delivery and completion of civil construction projects, including estimating, design management, construction management, planning / scheduling, and risk management associated with construction projects.
In 2008, Ellen was awarded the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Baulderstone Hornibrook Award for Excellence in Construction. As a mother of three, Ellen understands the challenges faced by women working in the construction and is passionate about encouraging diversity and work / balance within the industry.
